Overview
The powerful roar of rushing water welcomes visitors before they reach the hook of Horseshoe Falls, the largest of Niagara Falls’ three waterfalls. Here on the Canadian side of the river, a 35-mile scenic parkway winds through the manicured Queen Victoria Park. Visitors can feel the falls’ cool mist and appreciate their magnitude from the park’s vantage point or by boat, Skylon Tower, Minolta Tower, underground walkway, boardwalk or Whirlpool Aero Car. However, these crashing waters are only the beginning of the city of Niagara Falls, Ontario.
The “Honeymoon Capital of the World” issues marriage licenses for $100 and beckons lovers with the Butterfly Conservatory and Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens. Families are set as well. Feed beluga whales at Marineland Theme Park, circle the sky in Niagara Skywheel, get lost in a world of Legos at Brick City, zoom down a six-story water slide at Fallsview Indoor Waterpark or witness magic at the Greg Frewin Dinner Theatre. In the evening, grown-ups can spend their time rolling dice at world-class casinos or piling their plate high at the buffet at The Revolving Restaurant at Skylon Tower.
Branch out and learn how the Niagara Region is teeming with culture. History – the site of many War of 1812 battles, the area is sprinkled with heritage sites such as Fort George, an old British stronghold. Wine – wine flows freely at more than 80 wineries. Try Ontario’s internationally acclaimed Icewine if you taste nothing else. Gastronomy – richly soiled farmlands and specialty cheese and ice cream shops can’t be beat. The rest… well, it’s yours to discover.
