TABLE ROCK DAM AND POWERHOUSE
Branson, Missouri
Overview
Never seen a dam? History buff? Into energy conservation? Fascinated by engineering feats? Then add a stop to see Table Rock Dam and Powerhouse. Constructed in the mid-1900s by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the dam serves a dual purpose. It generates hydro-electric power and controls flooding for the White and lower Mississippi rivers. One positive side-effect has been the creation of a cold water fishery at the foot of the dam. Called the Shepherd of the Hills Trout Hatchery, it has turned the area into a trout fishing destination.
Tours of the dam are available during the warmer months of the year, and the surrounding massive Table Rick Lake is perfect for boating, recreation and, of course, fishing.
