Overview
Not far from Branson near Rogers, Arkansas, is the historical War Eagle Mills Farm. The War Eagle River caught the attention of surveyors after the Louisiana Purchase, and one of the earliest homesteaders, Sylvanus Blackburn, decided to set up business with a grist mill, saw mill, blacksmith shop and carpentry shop. During the Civil War, the Confederate soldiers burned it down, only to be rebuilt by Blackburn. In 1924, it burned down again. After significant research, the mill was rebuilt to resemble the original 1873 construction.
It is now the only working mill in Arkansas. Powered by the river, visitors can witness the grist mill grind corn meal, wheat flour and other grains. Stop by to see the bright red wooden building, water wheel, river and historical bridge. If the site keeps your interest, then sample products in the War Eagle Mercantile or Bean Palace Restaurant.
